The Most Life-Changing Advice I Can Give

If I had to leave you with just one piece of advice, it would be this:

Stop asking God to bless your plans. Start asking Him to reveal His.

That single shift has changed the way I live, pray, lead, and make decisions.

For years, I approached God with my own agenda. I had goals, dreams, timelines, and expectations. I simply wanted Him to bless what I had already decided.

But Scripture reveals something much better.

God isn’t looking for people with the best ideas. He’s looking for people willing to surrender their own.

He doesn’t invite us to build our own kingdoms with His help.

He invites us to join Him in building His.

When we surrender our plans, we don’t lose purpose—we discover it.

That doesn’t mean life suddenly becomes easy. It doesn’t mean every question is answered overnight. It means our decisions become anchored in something deeper than emotions, success, or public opinion.

I’ve learned that God’s vision is usually revealed one faithful step at a time.

Before He asks us to execute, He often asks us to listen.

Before He gives direction, He shapes our character.

Before He reveals the destination, He teaches us to trust the Guide.

Jesus said,

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
— John 10:27 (ESV)

Notice the order.

First, they hear.

Then, they follow.

Too often we reverse that order. We rush ahead asking God to approve our direction instead of slowing down long enough to hear His.

The greatest life is not found by chasing your dreams.

It is found by faithfully following the One who gave you life.

So if you remember only one thing from this post, let it be this:

Seek God’s voice before you seek God’s answers.

The answers you’re looking for often begin with the relationship you’ve been neglecting.
